According to the policy adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the contact information a domain is registered with must be correct and up to date all the time. Plus, this information is openly available on WHOIS lookup websites and while this may not be a problem for organizations, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, since anyone can see their names and their personal email and home addresses, all the more so in times when identity theft isn’t that uncommon. That is the reason why registrar companies have introduced a service that conceals the details of their clients without altering them. The service is referred to as ID Protection, Privacy Protection or WHOIS Protection. In case it is enabled, people will view the details of the domain registrar, not those of the domain owner, if they make a WHOIS lookup. The ID Protection service is supported by all generic top-level domain name extensions, but it’s still impossible to conceal your private info with some country-code ones.

ID Protection in Hosting

If you get a hosting plan from us, you will be able to activate ID Protection for any of your domain names in case their extensions support this option. You can register/transfer a domain name and enable ID Protection during the signup procedure or you can activate the service for any of your domains at any time later via the Hepsia Control Panel. The process is unbelievably easy – once you log in, you will have to visit the Registered Domains section where you’ll notice a list of all the domain names that you’ve registered through our company. For each one of them you will notice an “ID Protect” button, which will tell you if the service is active or not. By clicking it, you can either ID-protect the domain, or you can deactivate the service if it is currently activated.

ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you’ve got a semi-dedicated server account with our company and you register a domain name under it, you can activate our ID Protection service without any difficulty. This takes only a couple of mouse clicks in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, via which you manage everything associated with your semi-dedicated web hosting account. This is the place where you can see all your active domain names and for each one of them you’ll see an “ID Protect” sign, using which you can activate, renew or disable the ID Protection service. Of course, this can be done only with generic and country-specific extensions that support this option and you will be able to see this beforehand, so you will not end up buying a service that we can’t provide.
