If a particular page on an Internet site does not load for some reason or in case a link is not functioning, the website visitor will see an error page with some generic message. The page will have nothing in common with the rest of the website, that may make the visitor leave your website. A possible solution in cases like this is a feature offered by some web hosting companies - the ability to set up your own custom-made error pages which will have the exact same design and style as your website and which can contain any images or text which you want dependent upon the particular error. There are 4 well-known errors that could occur and they involve these so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your world-wide web browser sends a bad request to the web server and it cannot be processed; 401, if you are supposed to log in to see a web page, but you haven't done this yet; 403, if you do not have an authorization to view a certain page; and 404, if a link that you have clicked leads to a file which does not exist. In each of these cases, site visitors shall be able to see your customized content as opposed to a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Hosting

The customized error pages feature is available with every hosting plan we offer and you shall be able to replace all generic pages with your own with no more than a couple of clicks inside your Hepsia hosting CP. You'll need to develop the actual files and to upload them to your account, and then to set them for a specific domain or subdomain from the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia CP. You may do this for every single Internet site hosted inside the account independently, so that each group of custom made pages will have the exact same design as the website it is part of. If necessary, you may always revert back to a default page from our system or to the default Apache server page. One other way to set personalized error pages is to create an .htaccess file in the domain/subdomain root folder and to add a few lines in it. If you have not done this before, you can simply copy the needed program code from our Help article on this subject.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

All semi-dedicated servers which we supply support custom error pages and it shall not take more than a couple of mouse clicks from your Hepsia hosting Control Panel to use this functionality. The option is available in the Hosted Domains section of your Control Panel where you'll have to enter the links to the custom-made files via simple drop-down menus and a user-friendly interface. Needless to say, you should upload them inside your account before that. If you do not want to employ this feature at some point, you will be able to disable it just as quickly and choose an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be viewable when your visitors encounter an error. If you'd like to, you could also use an .htaccess file to enable the personalized error pages. The file should have a particular line of code plus a link for every single error type and you can find an example of the entire content for all four error types in our Help section.
